Quote you happy

Multiquote is an information, sourcing and quotation tool designed to help purchasers in the public sector. As well as counting a large number of NHS trusts among its clients, the system is also used in local and education authorities and emergency services.

The programme has been designed to meet government stipulations to remove paperwork from all public sector purchasing by 2005. It uses a step-by-step format that guides the user through the quotation-generating process and ensures competition.

Safety news

The National Patient Safety Agency will launch a new website in the spring, designed by cScape. Aimed at a wide spectrum of healthcare professionals, it will spread the word about improving patient safety. The look of the site is an important consideration as it will appeal to both a domestic and international audience.

Pharmacy advice

Community pharmacists and pharmacy chains can now make use of a new medicines management. The database, devised by Health Direction, helps community pharmacists understand the organisation and delivery of medicine management within primary care organisations. It also examines the various contracts that PCOs have incorporated in their medicine management.

With the high cost of medicine to PCOs - at least 20 per cent of their budgets are spent on medicine - their successful management is a central part of the work of a PCO.

Online training

The UK has become the first country to provide a nationwide doctor-training programme specifically focusing on the issue of patient safety. The service is free to doctors and trusts, with every module being recognised for continuing medical education, and suitable for professional accreditation and appraisal.

Launched last year and delivered and assessed online, over 5,000 junior doctors from trusts across the country have already completed the interactive training, taken the formal assessment and gained their certificates.

The programme, produced by the team of medical educationalists at www.

Doctors. net. uk in partnership with the Medical Protection Society, complements uk's free specialist medical education courses, now the most widely used medical training resource in the NHS.

Courses include training in presentation and management skills, and approved training to meet the needs of new EU directives in clinical trials.
