The man in charge of primary care collaboratives has been knighted in the Queen's birthday honours.
Sir John Oldham, head of the National Primary Care Development Team, was ennobled two years after receiving an OBE for services to the NHS.He said the award should be seen as a reward for progress made in primary care.
He said: 'I was surprised and delighted but I think it is a recognition of the work that the NPDT has delivered. If all the practices had not done the work, then this would not have happened.'
Yve Buckland, chair of the Health Development Agency, was made a dame in the honours list.
She said: 'I hope it will provide a boost to everyone working to tackle health inequalities and improve people's health.'
Other awards in health include CBEs for National Institute for Clinical Excellence chief executive Andrew Dillon, and Central Manchester and Manchester Children's University Hospitals trust chief executive Mike Deegan. OBEs are to be received by Mayday Healthcare trust chief executive Keith Ford, Morecambe Bay Hospitals trust chief executive Ian Cumming, and Tees and North East Yorkshire trust chief executive Moira Britton.
