The former chief executive of Stoke Mandeville Hospital trust, who was sacked for gross misconduct after a disciplinary hearing said the mismanagement of waiting lists had been her responsibility, has withdrawn all appeals against her dismissal.

Sue Nicholls was sacked in March after a hearing found the mismanagement of waiting lists had been her responsibility, during a period when she had been director of operations, deputy chief executive, acting chief executive and then chief executive at the trust.

In April Ms Nicholls announced her intention to appeal, claiming the decision to sack her had been 'perverse and unfair'. But last week the trust received notification that Ms Nicholls had withdrawn her appeal to the trust, as well as her application to an employment tribunal. The trust said a decision on a permanent replacement would be made once health secretary Alan Milburn decides whether to approve a merger with South Buckinghamshire trust.

Fiona Wise remains interim chief executive, a role she has held since April 2001, after she left Enfield Community Care trust.
