Heads of clinical governance earned an average salary of£43,017 and clinical governance managers an average£35,895 in 2004-05 in England, according to the NHS Salary Club Survey.
Both heads and managers of clinical governance employed by primary care trusts tend to earn lower salaries than their colleagues working for acute trusts, but the difference in salaries is more significant for heads.
Most of the heads of clinical governance are responsible for a main function, directorate or specialist area and report to a director. Clinical governance managers tend to be a job level lower and report to a head of clinical governance.
NHS Partners is collecting data from NHS organisations for the 2006 NHS Salary Club Survey.
NHS organisations receive a 50 per cent-plus discount on the survey reports if they participate in the research.
