Public health minister Yvette Cooper has announced that 19 pilot projects will receive funding for initiatives to reduce back pain in the workplace, as part of the 'back in work' scheme. Results from the pilots, which will receive a total of £700,000 from the Department of Health and the Health and Safety Executive, will be used to spread best practice. The Royal College of Nursing will receive £50,000 to help prevent back injury among nursing home staff. Trusts and health authorities have received cash to work with local firms on good practice or to develop clinics and information leaflets.
