Claire Perry, chief executive of Bromley health authority, has been appointed project director responsible for overseeing the establishment of a new UK regulatory body for nurses, midwives and health visitors. A Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Council will replace the UK Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting and the four national boards by September 2001. It will include a streamlined professional register and increased powers to deal with misconduct, poor performance and ill health. Ms Perry also leads the New Health Network.
