Healthcare bodies providing services for children in Scotland have been given a checklist of minimum national standards, Scottish health minister Susan Deacon has announced. All organisations will have to provide unrestricted visiting or family accommodation, nutritious children's menus, waiting and play areas and support and bereavement services. The template, drawn up by the Child Health Support Group, does not come with specific funding attached, but managers have been told that resource implications will be identified then considered by the Scottish Executive 'further down the line'. Donald McNeill, secretary of the Institute of Healthcare Management in Scotland, said he was 'reassured that the template is underpinned by new resources coming into the service'.
