Health visitors are warning that dropping the title 'health visitors'from the new national regulatory body could signal the demise of health visiting as a profession. The new Nursing and Midwifery Council does not include health visiting in its title or statutes. The Senate for Health Visiting and School Nursing which represents the UK's 10,050 health visitors, says the omission will 'wipe health visiting off the map'and 'render it totally invisible to the public, employers and for purposes of accountability and professional regulation'. Christine Bidmead, spokesperson for the Senate of Health Visiting and School Health, warned the omission will have serious implications for government health improvement targets.
