A further range of measures to improve pay and conditions in primary care was announced by health minister John Hutton last week.The measures include a commitment to ensure that GP registrars'pay is increased in line with that of junior hospital doctors, and that practice nurses' settlement is comparable to that of their hospital colleagues. Funding has been increased for locum cover for GPs on maternity, paternity and adoption leave, and primary care has been included in the already announced£100m for NHS childcare.
