The shortlist for the first ever Sustainable Communities Awards has been announced.

The awards were designed to recognise work across local partnerships that makes a genuine sustainable contribution to the communities they serve.

Forty-six projects from across the public sector were chosen from over 300 entries in the awards held jointly by HSJ and sister magazine Local Government Chronicle.

Judges included Metropolitan Police Service Commissioner Sir Ian Blair and race campaigner Doreen Lawrence. Those shortlisted included councils, primary care trusts and rescue services.

The winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony in London on 2 February. For details, see pages 20-21 or visit www. sustainablecommunities2006. com
