I would like to clarify the number of doctors in the NHS (England and Wales) at senior house officer grade who are from the European Economic Area or overseas.
Our article ('Catching the drift', page 24, `17 September) stated that, on average, 10 per cent of SHOs in the NHS qualified in another EEA member state. This is correct. We also said overseas doctors (from inside and outside the EEA) constitute 28 per cent of SHO grade.
This should read overseas doctors (outside the EEA) constitute 28 per cent of SHO grade.
Therefore, the number of SHOs that are from inside and outside the EEA is 38 per cent and not 28 per cent.
