The number of heart attack hospital admissions in Scotland fell by 17 per cent in the first year after its smoking ban came into force, it has been claimed.

According to research presented at a conference to discuss the impact of the ban, there has also been a 39 per cent reduction in second-hand smoke exposure in 11 year olds and adult non smokers, a 86 per cent reduction in second-hand smoke in bars and no evidence of smoking shifting from public places into the home.
