Strike action by ancillary workers employed by contractor Sodexho at Glasgow Royal Infirmary has been called off after the trust made 'a substantial additional contribution' to the company to enable it to increase pay.North Glasgow University Hospitals trust human resources director Alan Boyter said the trust had taken the initiative, making 'a substantial extra contribution to the company through our contract with them' to resolve 'what's been at times a very emotional dispute'.He was 'delighted' that a three-day strike planned for last week had been called off.The dispute, which saw a two-day, then a three-day strike by more than 300 workers was becoming increasingly bitter, with union members angered by 'scab labour'being brought in from other Sodexho contracts in an attempt to break the strike. The strikers secured a£5 per hour minimum rate and improved conditions and overtime rates.
