New, provisional figures show the region has seen nearly 7,000 suspected cases of meningococcal disease in the first three months of 2007, including 430 deaths.

The government of southern Sudan, the World Health Organisation and others have carried out a mass vaccination campaign in four counties and are planning further campaigns in the remaining areas.
