Colleagues have paid tribute to the deputy head of the National Primary Care Development team, Guy Rotherham, who died suddenly, aged 40.Mr Rotherham had a 17-year career in healthcare management, starting at Barnsley family practitioner committee.
He led a team of GPs and academics at Sheffield University in researching work on GPs whose performance gave cause for concern in 1996, and he published national reports on clinical governance in primary care and integrating care for homeless people. In 1999, he began working on the National Primary Care Collaborative and was part of the team that launched the NPDT in 2000. NPDT head Sir John Oldham said:
'This is a tragic loss. It is no exaggeration to say that without him NPDT would not have achieved its success.'
