University Hospitals of Leicester trust is predicting a £4m shortfall in funding for medical equipment. Trust medical director Dr Allan Cole told a board meeting that the trust needed £8m 'just to stand still', but has only £4m to spend. 'The funding for emergency medical equipment has always been inadequate. When you can't afford to buy new MRI scanners at £1m each - and we need two more - you just end up with patients having to wait a very long time for a scan, and you can't meet waiting-time targets. '
