I am writing to let you know how unfortunate it is that you included a photograph of a baby lying on its front.

The Foundation of the Study of Infant Deaths and the Department of Health strongly recommend babies should be placed to sleep on their backs.

This is because the risk of cot death is eight times greater for babies who sleep on their front.

I realise your photographer was merely reflecting what was happening in the hospital ward at the time, but nonetheless I thought you should be aware.

We will also be raising the issue with the hospital concerned, in the interest of saving babies lives.
