Hundreds of cardiac patients in Wales are to be transferred to Hammersmith Hospital in a bid to cut surgery waiting lists in the principality.Arrangements have been made with St John Ambulance for return transport to the trust, and accommodation for relatives will also be available for the duration of admissions. The option for treatment in London will be open to patients who have been on the waiting list since before 1 April 2001 at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff or Morriston Hospital in Swansea.A spokesperson for the Specialised Health Services Commission for Wales said follow-up appointments and cardiac rehabilitation would be arranged locally. In North Wales, where waiting lists are shorter, it has been proposed that patients could receive surgery at either Manchester Royal Infirmary or Liverpool's Cardiothoracic Centre.
