The Commission for Health Improvement has expressed concern about children's services at Weston Area Health trust, which provides limited inpatient care for children attending accident and emergency or day surgery. Children are not admitted under the care of a named paediatrician, in breach of guidelines from the royal colleges, and are cared for in a unit on the gynaecology ward where only two nurses are trained in paediatric care, leading 'to a number of potential risks to children'. The future of children's services is being considered as part of a strategic review in the Avon area.
