Kaye McIntosh's article about my move from chair to chief executive (Climbing out of the chair, news focus, pages 16-17, 9 March) reminded me of how much progress has been made by the NHS in west London in the past two years.

The work of the West London partnership forum has succeeded in catalysing change on a scale not previously possible. It shows what can be done when the NHS works together for the good of a wider health community.

At the Whittington Hospital, where I shall be moving, my predecessor as chief executive, Jane Perrin, has left for Wales, with financial targets achieved and an approved outline business case for capital redevelopment.

I look forward to building on her work.
