The continual inability of the NHS to engage with this group of young people is a core reason why inequalities will never be adequately tackled (HSJ 9 November). The NHS is governed by moral choices and offenders do not score highly on the morality stakes.
As on senior manager said to me when discussing the funding of Domestic Violence programmes, 'You're not asking me to fund DV sessions when I've got old people waiting for hip replacements, are you?'
In such a climate NHS involvement in the criminal justice system will not happen unless directed from the top.
