FINANCE: NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney is on track to deliver a surplus of £1m this financial year.
But September’s board meeting was told there was concern about the increasing costs of continuing care, where the forecast costs had risen by £3m. Both the number of assessments leading to continuing care commitments and the cost per case has increased.
The financial pressures facing the PCT were still very challenging, the board was told, and the surplus was based on using contingency funds.
Although the PCT was underspent with James Paget Hospital FT, this was due to a £1m one off benefit from the successful outcome of a contract dispute.
