WORKFORCE: Heart of England Foundation Trust is cutting around 1,600 posts over four years to deliver efficiency savings.

Chief executive Mark Newbold said: “The NHS has to make efficiency savings of 4 per cent for the next four years.

“For this trust this will equate to a reduction of somewhere in the region of 1,600 posts over a period of four years or a reduction of 400 posts per year for the next four years.

“On average 600 staff each year change jobs, leave the trust or retire so we believe that these reductions can be made through careful planning and working differently.

“I remain committed to quality and delivering high quality safe services.  We are continuing to recruit in important frontline posts as well as redesign services to improve patient outcomes and patient experience.  We will continue to do this.

“The NHS, like many other sectors, is facing unprecedented changes.  By working together and with our partners in primary care, we will be able to continue to ensure that the services we provide improve for our patients and we meet the challenging financial constraints facing the whole economy.”
