PERFORMANCE: University Hospital of North Staffordshire and Mid Staffordshire foundation trust have both already breached mixed sex accommodation (MSA) targets this year.
There were 30 breaches in July at North Staffordshire where patients had to share accommodation with the opposite sex against a target of zero for the year, according to latest figures published by the Department of Health. The trust blamed the lapse on capacity issues in its surgical assessment unit and critical care unit.
Meanwhile, at Mid Staffordshire, there have been 77 breaches of the MSA target so far this year.
The trust is in the process of developing an “Eliminating MSA” policy but board papers reveal that this has been delayed.
