PERFORMANCE: Parents are being given help and advice on how to talk to their children about death and serious illness by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The trust has developed booklets which ensure children who may be affected by the death of a loved one are provided with timely, relevant and appropriate information.

The child bereavement team and adult palliative care team at NUH have been working with children’s bereavement charity SPIRAL to draw up the booklets.

Jackie Browne, child bereavement facilitator at NUH, said: “Every year over 2,000 children in Nottingham are affected by the death of a parent, grandparent or sibling. We are in a unique position of being able to offer families information and resources to help bereaved children both before and at the time a loved one dies.”
