This map shows the segmentation rating given to all NHS providers by NHS Improvement today.

1 (green) = best; 4 (red) = worst

The list, which is provisional and due to be finalised in coming weeks, ranks each trust and foundation trust from 1 to 4. The higher the ranking, the worse the organisation is considered to be - therefore it will receive less autonomy and more “support” from NHS Improvement.

Providers being placed in category 4 will be given the most support from the regulator while those ranked 1 may be expected to to provide support and advice to others, NHS Improvement has said.

The categorisation is part of the national regulator’s single oversight framework, which was published last month
