Nottingham University Hospitals Trust chief executive Peter Homa will take on the same role at nearby Sherwood Forest Hospital Foundation Trust next week.

NUH’s chair Louise Scull will take on the same role at Sherwood Forest at the same time. It comes as the two trusts continue preparations to merge later this year.

It is the sixth current instance of chief executives running more than one trust. Other examples include Clare Panniker in Essex, Dame Julie Moore in Birmingham, and Sir David Dalton in Greater Manchester.

Sean Lyons will step down from his position as chair at Sherwood Forest after a three-year term which will end on 9 June.

Peter Herring, interim chief executive at Sherwood Forest since November 2015, will remain as managing director responsible for the day-to-day running of the trust during the transitional period.

Earlier this year Sherwood Forest, which has been in special measures since 2013, said it had no future as an independent provider and joining with NUH was a “clear strategic fit”.
