The building of a £20m new hospital in Stratford-upon-Avon has received approval by South Warwickshire Foundation Trust’s council of governors.
The first phase of the development will include provision of cancer and ophthalmology services. The new hospital will be constructed alongside the existing one with all services maintained throughout the build period.
The trust said the new hospital, which will be roughly twice the size of the current one, will “bring care closer to home” for patients in South Warwickshire and mean some will no longer have to travel to Warwick Hospital to receive cancer services.
The trust will now submit the proposals for planning permission with the aim of beginning construction in the autumn of this year and completing the build in about 15 months.
