Due to the significant challenges posed by the first wave of Covid-19, CCGs in North-West London (NWL) designed and piloted a ‘virtual-ward’ to enable better patient care, enhance clinical capacity and improve access for patients presenting with moderate Covid symptoms. The pilot sought to safely monitor patients in the community by utilising scaled-up primary care hubs, which provided remote monitoring through phone calls and/or a mobile application, provided by Huma. The pilot started in Hillingdon and Central London CCGs initially (covering ~730k patients), and was successfully scaled across the NWL Integrated Care System, covering 2.4 million patients.
