FINANCE: The primary care trust’s finance papers have highlighted four practices still referring ‘low priority’ procedures.

The primary care trust’s board focused on the issue across the borough in the light of a £3.5m over-performance with local acute providers at the end of month nine.

It said: “The largest referring practices are St John’s Way Medical Centre, Goodinge, Islington Central Medical Centre and the Ritchie Street Group practice”.

PCTs across London have adopted policies to try and restrict procedures of low clinical value or priority in an attempt to save money.

The paper noted that overall Islington’s referrral rate is slightly lower than the sector average and the figures for 2010/11 appears to show a further decrease year-on-year.
