FINANCE: Lancashire Teaching Hospitals recorded a deficit of £1.2m for the first two months of 2013-14, £0.7m higher than planned.
The foundation trust’s latest finance report states: “The Trust’s operational financial performance for the month ending 31 May 2013 is a deficit position of (£1,225k) after exceptional items (before exceptional items, the actual position is £946k deficit). Clinical income reported a favourable position as operational pressures eased . Education and training funds were slightly above plan. Pay costs remained underspent slightly against plan whilst non-pay costs reported a deficit including the slippage on the efficiency programme.
“The Productivity & Efficiency Programme has an annual target of £22m. Operational teams have a number of plans in the pipeline along with the cross cutting programmes which require significant focus to aid delivery in the coming months. The transformation director will be pivotal in this delivery.
“As at May 2013 schemes with an in year value of £12m have been identified. The focus of the operational teams is on development and delivery of the 2013-14 Programme and the implementation of the outstanding plans from 2012-13.”
