STRUCTURE: The merger of North West London Hospitals Trust and Ealing Hospital Trust is to cost £30.4m, board papers reveal.

Plans for the proposed merger between the £367m turnover trust and its £133m turnover neighbour in Ealing will be submitted to NHS London in October.

A report to the NWLHT board from its chief executve David McVittie said: “Work continues to agree the potential sources of funding for the transitional costs associated with the merger, including the £30.4m of merger costs. A paper describing the factors that drive the need for the £96.5m of external funding and potential sources of funding has been drafted and shared with commissioners, the north west London cluster and NHS London.

“It is expected that all costs associated with the merger will be absorbed within the £30.4m and be agreed as part of this negotiation process.”

It added: “Given the likely merger date of 1 April 2013, these costs are being reassessed and validated and the outcome will be reported to the September board. The costs will include the PricewaterhouseCoopers costs of supporting the QIPP development approved at the July Board and the forecast additional costs to support the due and careful enquiry refresh [with] KPMG.”
