Luton and Dunstable University Hospital FT is £600,000 behind its budget plan submitted to Monitor, according to its mid-year financial report.

Following a “challenging” September, the trust said it was engaged in “a recovery plan to ensure that the trust shows an improved position in the remaining two quarters”.

The major elements of this plan are in the turnaround plan for trauma and orthopaedics and medical productivity.

Concerns were raised in the board papers about the increase in staff numbers; recruitment time delays; the potential for the trust to spend more than £20m on temporary staffing in the on absence management.
