PERFORMANCE: The Care Quality Commission still has concerns about medicines management and staffing at Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust.

A report based on a visit earlier this month reveals the regulator is now satisified the trust is meeting the majority of its essential standards.

However, it reported moderate concerns about medicines management after patients reported their medicines were locked in bedside cabinets they could not access and one patient described how they had to wait until 1am for their evening medicines due to staffing problems.

Inspectors also raised concern about staff training and compliance with National Patient Safety Agency alerts around pharamcy.

The CQC reported minor concerns about staffing which centred around ongoing problems with recruitment leading to a shortage of junior doctors and high levels of agency use for nurses.
