In regards to HSJ's 2 August article on care farming, it is well worth exploring Dr Dixon’s suggestions for the new ‘farmacy’ and looking at what other countries have done for decades.
I visited the Havana Psychiatric Institute in 1976. At the time, it cared for 3,000 inpatients (not a model we would want to follow) and the huge grounds were full of greenhouses, outdoor gardens, art studios and galleries. The patients provided a huge share of the wholesale floral and vegetable produce for the city of Havana at that time. It was impressive.
