Nuffield Health will cover the clinical investigation and surgery costs of all its patients who have had PIP implants, the organisation has announced.

The healthcare provider, who said “around 150” people had been given the implants at one of their hospitals, said it wanted to “reassure” concerned patients.

Nuffield Health group medical director Dr Andrew Jones said: “Investigations have yet to determine whether PIP implants pose a specific risk to patients.

“However, should any procedure carried out at one of our hospitals cause concern, we have always, and will continue to take responsibility to put things right. This case is no different.”

Nuffield Health said it stopped using PIP implants when concerns were first raised in March 2010, and wrote to the patients affected inviting them to attend a consultation.

Dr Jones added: “For those patients who had a clinical need, we removed their implants at our expense.

“We will be writing to our patients again this week to ask them to contact the hospital in which they had their treatment if they have concerns or are suffering from any complications from their previous surgery.

“Should any patients require clinical investigation or further surgical treatment, including the removal of the PIP implants due to clinical need, we will meet the costs incurred.”
