The chief information officer of University Hospital Southampton Foundation Trust, one of the global digital exemplars, spoke at an HSJ webinar on how consistent levels of digitisation can now be achieved across the NHS.

Adrian Byrne – who has been at the trust since 1995 – was joined on the panel by Gary Colman, head of IT audit and assurance services at West Midlands Ambulance Service Foundation Trust, and Prakash Mana, chief portfolio officer at Pulse Secure. The discussion was chaired by HSJ contributor Claire Read.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that the coronavirus pandemic has, in many instances, accelerated digital transformation in the NHS. The webinar, which was run with Pulse Secure, explored whether this acceleration will help lead to consistent levels of digitisation and cybersecurity across the service.

The panel also considered how the digital aspirant trust programme announced before the coronavirus crisis might help.
