FINANCE: A Birmingham clinical commissioning group has told NHS Property Services Ltd that it cannot afford to pay a £2.3m charge to plug a gap in local premises costs.

Birmingham South Central CCG’s July board papers say: “There is a significant shortfall in premises funding across Birmingham, representing a potential £2.3m shortfall for BSC.

“Discussion is continuing with NHS England to identify where former primary care trust funding has been allocated. Premises were fully funded by PCTs previously so this is not a historic problem.

“The CCG has committed to ring-fence confirmed premises funding for the purpose, but has notified NHS Property Services that it is unable to fund a shortfall of this extent if the funds are not identified.”
