• Modality Partnership takes on three GP practices in East Surrey
  • ‘Super partnership’ is now operating in six STP footprints
  • Total population coverage exceeds 300,000 patients

One of the largest scale GP providers in the country has expanded into a sixth sustainability and transformation partnership region.

The move is believed to make it the GP partnership with the widest geographical reach in England.

Modality Partnership, a “super partnership” based in Birmingham, has taken on three practices in East Surrey, covering 35,000 patients.

The practices – Birchwood Medical, Smallfield Surgery and Townhill Medical – that joined Modality this month are within the Surrey and East Sussex STP patch.

This is the sixth STP area the provider has expanded into. The five others it works in are:

  • the Black Country;
  • Birmingham and Solihull;
  • Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West;
  • Humber, Coast and Vale; and
  • West Yorkshire and Harrogate.

The provider is now believed to be the most expansive GP partnership in England in terms of its geographical coverage.

Following the expansion, it will have more than 100 GP partners and cover a total population of more than 300,000 patients.

In 2017, it took on practices in the Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven area and Hull.

Naresh Rati, a GP and chief executive of Modality, said: “We welcome East Surrey into the Modality family. It is fantastic to find more and more likeminded local GPs who want to come together to transform general practice in their local area, for the benefit of their staff and patients alike.”

Elango Vijaykumar, clinical chair of East Surrey Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Working together in partnership will bring more resilience and enables us to better serve our patients.

“We have chosen to work with Modality Partnership as they share our same ethos and vision for the future of patient care and GP led services.”
