MENTAL HEALTH: New inpatient accommodation in Tooting and Kingston is the public’s preferred option for a £160m revamp of mental health services in South London.
Springfield University Hospital in Tooting and Tolworth Hospital in Kingston, run by South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust, are expected to host the services, Merton Clinical Commissioning Group governing body papers said.
Inpatient services in Merton are already provided in premises run by trust but that accommodation does not comply with NHS and Care Quality Commission standards, and is not considered sustainable in the long term, the papers said.
The decision follows a public consultation in September-December and taking advice from the London clinical senate.
The papers state: “This represents a significant modernisation of inpatient mental health accommodation valued at £160m at today’s prices. The development would be funded by the disposal of surplus NHS land, mainly at Springfield.”
