PERFORMANCE: Newcastle North and East Clinical Commissioning Group exceeded its threshold for non-hospital related healthcare acquired infections by more than double in 2013-14.
As of March 2014, the CCG reported 49 cases of non-hospital related healthcare acquired infections against a trajectory of 27, according to papers discussed at at joint meeting of CCGs in Newcastle. 25 of these were community cases.
Newcastle West CCG was also above trajectory for 2013-14, reporting 32 cases of non-hospital related healthcare acquired infections against a threshold of 25.
“Across the North East of England CCGs are aware of a continuing upward trend in [healthcare acquired infections,” the papers state.
“The Alliance CCG executive director of nursing has established a HCAI Reduction Partnership across Gateshead, Newcastle and Northumbria to closely monitor the trend and identify potential mitigating actions, and lessons learned… This will help inform a regional approach with NHS England Area Team.”
