WORKFORCE: A clinical commissioning group leader is planning to stand for Parliament at the next general election.
Mark Hayes, chief clinical officer for Vale of York CCG, has been selected as the Labour party candidate for Selby and Ainsty.
Dr Hayes said his “interests in improving the local community” are “intrinsically linked to health and wellbeing”.
“My aim is to influence improvements in health and care services on a local and national scale and enhance the work and achievements of the CCG to date,” he added.
He said “nothing has changed” in his my role as chief clinical officer. “I will continue to provide the strategic direction and performance guidance to the team and maintain close relationships with health and care providers, local government colleagues and other stakeholders.
Selby and Ainsty is currently held by Conservative MP Nigel Adams, who got 49.4 per cent of votes in the last general election.
