SERVICES: North Cumbria University Hospitals Trust has redesigned its paediatric diabetics service and is recruiting additional specialists.
In future, children will get medical, nursing and dietetic input at each clinic visit together with additional contacts between clinics where helpful to families. Psychology support will also be offered.
The trust will also provide the services across the west of the county, as well as the north and east. Previously services in the west were provided by Cumbria Partnership Foundation Trust.
Paul Whitehead, clinical director for paediatrics, said: “Our aim is to promote the physical, psychological, intellectual, educational and social development of children and young people with diabetes, and maintain their long-term health and independence.”
Some gaps in the team have been identified against NICE guidance and recruitment is taking place.
