SERVICES: A pioneering service in Essex will see two school liaison nurses working to reduce school absenteeism and encourage appropriate use of health services.

Lynne Holden and Vicky Saunders will run drop-in centres at primary schools in south Tendring, as well as offering telephone advice between 7am and 6pm.

Their posts have been jointly funded for the first year by NHS North Essex and Tendring South Local Delivery Group, which is a partnership of the 14 schools in Clacton, Jaywick and St Osyth. They are employed by local community healthcare provider, Anglian Community Enterprise (ACE).

Helen Kershaw, assistant director for children and maternity commissioning at NHS North Essex, said: “The creation of these posts is an exciting and innovative development and an opportunity to promote better health whilst at the same time improving school attendance.”
