FINANCE: Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and North Tyneside primary care organisations are already reporting overspends according to NHS North of Tyne board papers.
Pressure points include A&E activity and outpatient procedures. However a significant proportion of the overspend also expenditure relates to uncoded activity.
Figures from the NHS North of Tyne financial performance report for the first quarter show that A&E activity is nearly 32 per cent higher than expected in Newcastle and has already lead to a £437,000 overspend for NHS North of Tyne.
The report also reveals that day cases and outpatient procedures have increased other services including critical care and direct access services are also overspent for Newcastle and North Tyneside PCTs, while radiotherapy is over plan for Northumberland.
