WORKFORCE: North Tyneside Council and primary care trust have jointly appointed a new public health director to start in October.
Marietta Evans has been working in South Tyneside as a public health director for the past four years pushing local initiatives to improve health.
In her new role, she will have a leading part in implementing new arrangements for health improvement. Under the NHS reform proposals this responsibility will transfer from primary care trusts to local councils.
Ms Evans said: “After working south of the river for so long I’m delighted to be working in my home borough. It is an exciting time to be taking on this new post, when responsibilities for public health are transferring to local councils.”
