FINANCE: NHS Northamptonshire had already overspent on its acute budget by more than £1m only three months into the financial year.

The PCT’s finance report to the July board meeting said: “The acute commissioning budgets are overspent by £1.025m at Month 3.” The variance came from an overspend of more than £1m on its contract with Kettering General Hospital.

It also forecast a year-end overspend of £3.036m. It said the “main challenges” for the acute budget are: “To manage growth so that it remains within contracted levels,” and “the delivery of the QIPP and CIP targets”.
