STRUCTURE: North Tyneside overview and scrutiny committee has approved plans to move acute mental health assessment and treatment facilities from North Tyneside General Hospital ward 21 to St Georges Park Hospital, Morpeth.

Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the services, says in a paper to its board of governors: “Confirmation has now been received from North Tyneside OSC that they consider the proposed relocation of ward 21 to be in the best interests of local people, and that our consultation with the committee and with local people has been adequate.

“It continues to be anticipated that this move will take place during 2011, and work is underway to ensure this happens as quickly as possible so that patients are able to benefit from a better ward environment as soon as possible.”
