STRUCTURE: John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and Southampton General have been named as the South Central region’s two major trauma centres.
Oxford University Hospitals Trust board papers two trauma networks would be implemented from 2 April.
However, they add that implementation will be “phased”, and that “discussions continue with commissioners and the DH about the necessaryadjustments to tariff required to make these specialist services financially viable”.
Both major trauma centres will provide treatment to the most seriously injured and complex patients, supported by trauma units at other local hospitals.
Southampton will be supported by: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital; Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth and; St Mary’s Hospital, Isle of Wight.
John Radcliffe will be supported by: Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading; Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury, and; Wexham Park Hospital, Slough.
