STRUCTURE: Oxford University Hospitals Trust has opened an acute vascular imaging centre worth £13m.

The centre is a partnership with Oxford University and was funded by the National Institute of Health Research.

Trust board papers for November said the centre aims to improve the early treatment of heart attack and strokes by understanding more about what is happening in the patient’s heart or brain tissue at the time of the attack.

The centre has both a state-of-the-art catheter lab and an MRI scanner.

Professor Robin Choudhury is the clinical director for the centre, which is based at the trust’s main John Radcliffe Hospital, in its heart centre and next to the emergency department.
